After re-listening to this interview I realize that Chad and Steve are way less jaded then me. From what I can gather, the new toy sparkle of punk rock hasn’t lost it’s luster on them and I doubt it ever will. Even as “Warped Tour Veterans” they seem to still love what they do and the scene that they come from. Whereas their forefathers as well as their contemporaries may have become jaded about “the scene”, New Found Glory haven’t. I think that their fans recognize this honesty and it’s one of the reasons that they are still successful. People love them not only because they write good songs but because if they weren’t in the band, they would be in the crowd.
I think it’s about as hard to break into the music industry in south Florida as it is in Kansas. You’re isolated and you have to get out and prove yourself if you want anyone to take you seriously. New Found Glory put in the work, they earned their fans. Though I’m not interested in being a full time touring musician anymore I am proud of my track record and the years that I put in on the road. NFG probably puts away more gigs a year now, as grown men, then I did in my 20’s. It’s amazing to me that they still seem to love it.
